Configuring spam control rules
Datto SaaS Defense give you the ability to configure rules to control spam. This includes the Spam Trial Threshold configuration that sets the threshold at which the application blocks spam and the Spam Trials Excludes configuration that allows spam from designated email addresses.
SaaS Defense applies many scoring rules in determining whether an email is spam. If an email's final score is more than the threshold value, the email is marked as spam. The default threshold value is seven. With the Spam Trial Threshold configuration, you can change the threshold value at which SaaS Defense identifies an email as spam. To block more spam, lower the threshold to five or six. To block less spam, increase the threshold to eight or nine.
To configure the Spam Trial Threshold option for a specific client:
- On the Clients page, hover over the applicable client record and in the far right column, click the Configurations icon.
- In the Account Configurations section, click Emails.
- Verify the Spam Trial Threshold option is activated (button is on the right side in the Status column). If it is not, click the button to activate.
- Click Spam Trial Threshold.
- Click Add Rule.
- In the Threshold Value field, use the arrows to change the number or select the number and enter the new value.

- Hover over the applicable MSP record and in the far right column, click the Configurations icon.
- In the Global Configurations section, click Emails.
- For the Spam Trial Threshold configuration, click the toggle in the Status column to enable it (button is on the right side in the Status column).
With the Spam Trials Excludes configuration, you can specify email addresses and domains from which spam emails are allowed to be received. While Datto SaaS Defense normally blocks email identified as spam, it allows those sent from addresses and domains you have included on the Spam Trials Excludes allowlist. However, spam emails determined to be malicious are still quarantined even if the sender is on the allowlist.
